The Role of Human Resource Management in an Organization

An organization be complete with the people who are working. So the main role of Human Resource Management is to organize people so that they can effectively work. The employees are a human assets, not a costs to the organization.

The Human Resource Management should be able to strategically manage people as business resources. This includes managing recruiting and hiring employees, coordinating employee benefits and suggesting employee training and development strategies. HR professionals are consultants, not workers in an isolated business function, they advise managers on many issues related to employees and how they help the organization achieve its goals.

Main Roles of HR in an Organization;
  • Working Together
  • Strategic Partner
  • Employee Advocate
Working Together
HR professionals should work with managers and all levels of the organization personal. To achieve the mission of the organization, they all should work together and HR professionals should develop employees’ skills for the betterment of the organization.
For example, HR professionals advise managers and supervisors how to assign employees to different roles in the organization, thereby helping the organization adapt successfully to its environment. In a flexible organization, employees are shifted around to different business functions based on business priorities and employee preferences.

Strategic Partner
HR professionals also suggest strategies for increasing employee commitment to the organization. This begins with using the recruiting process or matching employees with the right positions according to their qualifications. Once hired, employees must be committed to their jobs and feel challenged throughout the year by their manager.

Employee Advocate
The HR manager plays an integral role in organizational success via the knowledge and advocacy of people. This advocacy includes expertise in how to create a work environment in which people will choose to be motivated, contributing and happy.

So in promoting the overall success of an organization, the identification of the organizational mission, vision, values, goals and action plans should be done. Finally the determination of the measures of the above mentioned, will lead the organization success.

  1. Very good discussions
you have point out 3 main roles and I like to include my view under point 01 , Working together.

Most of time HR people are missed this point. They are reluctant to work to gether, if the some problems arrised in other department.

Example , One Sales person continuesly failed to achieve his target and big pressure came from top management, some time they ask to leav due to poor performance.
But most of time HR team also agree with the decision and they also try to bring new employees.

I think HR team has responsibilities to involve and work to gether find the solution , Why sales guy fail and what are the reason to fail and those reasons are valid or invalid.

HR team should work to gether with other departments at any situation either good or bad period.

    1. Yes, as I have mentioned, Its a Team work to achieve the organizational mission. And each employee responsibility lies with the HR department as well. As you have mentioned in the example, if any employee is keep failing, the HR should analyse in which skills the employee is missing and relevant training should be given.

  5. HI Nirmal , Interesting article.
I believe training and development plays a great part within all three roles you have highlighted above. Identifying skill requirement for each job role, conduction skill matrix to identify skill gaps and training to meet the standards will help any organization to achieve set goals while making the people happy and motivated.

    1. Yeah Neoshine, Thank you for your comment. All the employees should be given the relevant training if the employee is lacking in any skills. And to keep the employee within an organization, the employees should be positively motivated and make them happy about the organization.

  6. Well identified. Its great that you brought in the Employee Advocate role of HRM along with the other two roles you identified. This is a very important aspect of an HR Manager, and is also a component of the Five Functional aspects for the HR Manager to Address later elaborated from Ulrich's three-legged stool. This advocacy or Psychological Contract was also realized by Henderson, since in any and every organization, advocacy or counselling is a necessary factor in order to provide its employees a great employee experience; not only in conflicting situations but in every situation in the employee life-cycle within the organization.

  7. The organization should look more into HRM than Personnel Management since the latter is out dated. It encourages the managers to work together with the employees rather than just being the commander. That way, it will be easier for the managers in the organization to identify the talents and potential of the employees.

    1. Yes Randoll, the managers should not be a commander, they should work together and build up their team to achieve the common goal of the organization.

  8. Happy to see the article approaching the threefold roles of an efficient HR manager by suggesting his or her role as more of a leader than a manager (with reference to the classic distinction between the leader and manager).
In fact, the HR should be looked at in a wholistic view just like its suggested here, because at the end of the day, the subject matter of HRM is not merely theories or paradigms but concrete human situations as HR seeks to effectively place the human assets of any given venture within the frame work of its vision and mission.

    1. Agree with you Kanishka, as I have mentioned, HR should be able to work together and motivate the employees within the organization. It will be easy for both parties to go with the common plan with understanding.

  10. Human Resources Mgt. simply defined as efficient and effective utilization of human resources to achieve goals of an organization. As a Strategic partner, there are several strategic goals to achieve. Improve employee productivity, increase quality of work life, Employee development are some of them.

What are the “Learning Styles” we can observe?

When we start to learn something new, our first concern is naturally with what we are learning. But have you stopped to consider how you learn? How will you approach your new subject? Do you know how effective that approach will be? Have you considered other methods? What is “Learning”? it is developed by the individual through experience. And it is a relatively permanent change in knowledge, skills, attitude or behaviour that comes through experience. (Henderson, 2017) “Learning can be shown to have occurred when learners know new facts or can use a new skill. It is continuous lifelong process, best achieved through real-life experience” (Lesmes, Geoffrey and Moody, 2001) As you can see in the above figure, according to Kolb’s learning cycle there are 4 stages. Namely; Concrete experience Observations and Reflection Formation of abstract concepts and generalizations Testing implications of concepts in new situations So the learning experience runs in sequenc
